When the children of the Republic of Georgia were visiting Atlanta in 1989, a Revolution took place in Tibilisi, the capital. With the support of the Mayor of Douglasville, Charlie Camp, we were able to comfort the children by planting a Peace Tree in Hunter Park. We then had a cement slab constructed at the base of the tree, allowing both American and Georgian children to place their hand print in the cement, honoring their friendship. We have chosen to plant a Peace Pole at Hunter Park to rededicate our prayers for Peace as once again, in 2008, there is violence in the Republic of Georgia.
We hope that the children and families that participated in the past dedication will come forward and reconnect with each other at the 20th year celebration in 2009.
