Georgia Aquarium

The Georgia Aquarium opened in November 2005 as a gift to the community from Bernie and Billi Marcus. Mr. Marcus, who co-founded The Home Depot, wanted to give back to the community. Their extraordinary personal gift of $250 million, along with major commitments from some of Atlanta’s best corporate citizens created a new attraction for downtown Atlanta.

The Georgia Aquarium is committed to inspiring guests to conserve aquatic biodiversity throughout the world through education and engaging experiences. We have been honored to host visitors from every state and many countries from around the globe.

Our exhibits and animals represent diverse environments and species, bringing the best of the aquatic world together in one facility. It is our hope that through the beauty of the aquatic world showcased in our aquarium exhibits, we can unite the joy of guests with the importance of sustainable practices and environmental conservation.

Through these actions our team of staff and volunteers work daily with the hope making a difference in our community. This Pole was dedicated on International Peace Day, September 21st 2008.
